Optional Test
Some of our clinics have equipped advanced machines that facilitate the checkup. You may take extra checkup apart from those in regular checkup plans according to your personal needs.
Cervical Smear
Cervical cancer is one of the few cancers that can be prevented through health checks. It is recommended that women aged between 25 and 70 who have had sexual experience undergo regular cervical smear tests, also known as pap tests, to detect early abnormal cervical lesions and treat cancer at its early stage. If your second smear result is also normal, you should repeat smear tests every 3 years.
Colposcopy Service (available in Tin Shui Wai)
Colposcopy service is required when abnormality is detected by cervical smear. Colposcopy is like a microscope put near the vagina to allow more detailed examination of the cervix. The examination usually takes about 20-30 minutes.
Pelvic Ultrasound (available in Tin Shui Wai)
Pelvic ultrasound is used to assess whether the uterus and ovaries have cyst, fibroids, polycystic ovary syndrome or endometriosis. You must drink plenty of water before the examination, so that the full bladder can push the uterus out of the pelvic cavity into the lower abdominal cavity, making visualization of the uterus and ovaries easier by ultrasound.
Mammogram (available in Tin Shui Wai)
Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death in women. The early detection of breast cancer is linked to higher survival rates. Mammogram can be used to detect early signs of breast cancer, tumours or fibrocystic breast changes, allowing you to receive treatment at an earlier stage.
Breast Ultrasound (available in Tin Shui Wai)
The breast ultrasound is often used when doctors palpate a lump which does not show up on a mammogram. It may also be used to distinguish whether a lump is benign or malignant when it is spotted in a mammography. Mammogram and breast ultrasound are two different imaging modalities with different functions. An ultrasound does not replace a mammogram or vice versa, but the combination of the two can complement each other. The doctor will make appropriate tests according to your needs.
Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry Test (available in Jordan/Tin Shui Wai/Wo Lok Centre)
Osteoporosis is common in middle-aged and menopausal women. Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) uses X-rays to measure the bone density of the lumbar spine or femur to accurately assess bone health and osteoporosis. The amount of radiation in this examination is slight and is only one-tenth of chest and lung X-rays.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination
There are more than 200 types of human papillomavirus (HPV) and about 20% can be transmitted through sexual contact. The World Health Organisation pointed out that HPV-16 and 18 are common high-risk HPV types, which can cause 70% of cervical cancers and pre-cancerous cervical lesions. In Hong Kong, HPV-16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, 58 accounted for about 90% of cases of cervical cancer. UCN provides the 9-valent HPV vaccine that includes all the above seven genotypes.
The HPV vaccine provides protection against cervical cancer, vagina cancer and vulvar cancer. However, as the vaccines cannot protect against diseases induced by other types of HPV or clear the virus which are already infected, cervical screening is still necessary.
