Macular Degeneration
Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a visual impairment caused by the degeneration of the macular part of the retina in older people. It usually begins to occur between the ages of 60 and 65. It is also the main cause of blindness in those over 60 years old.
Tonometry (Screen for Glaucoma)
Glaucoma is a common eye disease that would causing blindness,. In Hong Kong, there are 120 thousand patient with glaucoma. 1 in 7 patients have significant loss of vision. Female has high risk of acute glaucoma especially those middle aged female. High risk factors of glaucoma included older age (people above 60 yrs old has 6 times higher risk), family history, high degree of shortsightness, high degree of farsightness, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, migraine, obstructive sleep apnea, drug induced high eye pressure. Screening Glaucoma by measuring intra-occular pressure can discover glaucoma earlier.
Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry Test (available in Jordan/Tin Shui Wai/Wo Lok Centre)
Osteoporosis is common in middle-aged and menopausal women. Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) uses X-rays to measure the bone density of the lumbar spine or femur to accurately assess bone health and osteoporosis. The amount of radiation in this examination is slight and is only one-tenth of chest and lung X-rays.
DM Complication screening（Suitable for people who have been diagnosed with diabetes）
Long term uncontrolled Diabetes would have high blood sugar level causing damage of blood vessel and lead to complication.
DM complication included big vessel disease like high ischaemic heart disease, stroke and peripheral artery diseases; small vessel disease like kidney dysfunction, retinopathy, nerve dysfunction. Peripheral artery disease and nerve dysfunction would decrease sensation of foot and lead to easy injury, poor healing, increase chance of infection and lead to gangrene that may lead to amputation.
Long term high blood sugar level would increase chance of cataract and glaucoma.
