UCN builds on a lineage of predecessor organisations, namely 'Kwun Tong Community Health Project' and 'Nethersole Community Health Service', which were the pioneers of community healthcare service in Hong Kong. With the root stretching back to 1972, 'Kwun Tong Community Health Project' established the first Community Health Centre at Sau Mau Ping, providing the public with health promotion, education, prevention, diagnostic treatment, rehabilitation and community support services. 'Nethersole Community Health Service', another ancestor of UCN, started to provide similar kind of primary health service in Tai Po. Sharing a common vision, the abovementioned organisations merged on 1 April 1997 and renamed 'United Christian Nethersole Community Health Service'.
